Shima Marine Land

Unlike most aquariums, Shima Marineland offers an interesting angle by showcasing the evolution of living sea creatures. In line with its archaic theme, the aquarium is designed like ammonites, an extinct group of marine mollusks that are closely related to the living Nautilus. There are a total of six core attraction areas, including the unique ancient aquarium where visitors can learn the history of life through marine fossils and touch them. Highlights include the heavy-weight ocean sunfish that can weigh up to a tonne and a rare specimen of a giant octopus with 96 tentacles! Look out for feeding demonstrations by Ama, traditional native female divers, in the largest tank of the aquarium that also houses 2,500 fishes of roughly 50 different species.
